On an unseasonably warm day and over a very challenging course, out of town runners charged away with the winning times for the 1st Annual Gallop 4 the Greenways.  Congratulations to Lesia Atkinson of Boulder, CO and Tyler Kirk of Charlottesville, VA for winning the inaugural race.  Local running standouts Sarah Glenn and Stephanie Lambert as well as Lee Bradshaw and Steve Hetherington finished very strongly for 2nd and 3rd overall.

What is a Greenway? - Feb 3, 2007 - 7:40:17 PM

A greenway is a protected, vegetated corridor, through an urban or developing area, often providing access to rural countryside.   Most people think of greenways as “linear parks.”   Usually, they include trails extending for miles along lands that typically remain undeveloped, such as stream or river corridors.   Any strip of open land can become a greenway.   Two famous examples of greenways that run through our region are the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
