| Feb. 1, 2005 ROANOKE , Va. - Virginia Varsity Self Storage is capitalizing on the rapid growth of the residential housing market in the Botetourt area by opening its third self-storage facility. The state-of-the art facility, which is now open at Hillview Drive and 220 Alternate/Route 604 between the Botetourt Athletic Club and Wal-Mart, is twice the size of typical storage facilities in the region. ?We are excited about finally offering our storage services to the Botetourt/460 market,? said John D. Lugar, president of the company, who also owns and operates Virginia Varsity Transfer. ?Botetourt will largely complete our market coverage for the Roanoke Valley and position us to satisfy the enormous demand of the fast-growing residential and business needs of Botetourt County for many years to come.? The initial phase of the new facility features approximately 30,000 square feet and offer 220 units of both standard and climate-controlled spaces. The property is extensively landscaped, completely gated and monitored by a computerized access and surveillance system. ?This will truly be a premium, state-of-the-art facility that will offer our customers features that are unique to the Roanoke Valley, such as a high-tech video security system, a full retail store, unique sizes ? even background music throughout the facility to make the experience more enjoyable,? said Lugar, who plans to grow the facility to approximately 95,000 square feet in the next 7-10 years. The new location includes a large ?Varsity Store? selling a wide variety of boxes and other moving supplies. It also offers something new for the Roanoke Valley : Mini lockers. These small units are roughly the size of a washing machine and are a great solution for those storing one or a few small things. ?We have incorporated new, customer-friendly features and amenities to continue to best serve the Valley?s storage customers and improve our storage brand,? said Jesse M. Lawrence III, partner/co-owner with Virginia Varsity. ?We are always looking for ways to improve the customer experience at our properties.? Virginia Varsity Transfer was founded in 1988 and employs more than 40 people during the peak season. Headquartered in Roanoke County, the company offers local and national, long-distance moving. Virginia Varsity Transfer has been voted Roanoke 's Best Moving Company by readers of The Roanoker magazine every year since 1996. In addition, the company won the Virginia Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics in 2000 and was named 2004 Small Business of the Year (Business-to-Consumer Services) by the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce. Virginia Varsity Self Storage, founded in 1998, currently has locations at 5885 Starkey Road in Roanoke (51,000 square feet) and 2085 Apperson Drive in Salem (40,000 square feet).
